| Biography:
Textile artist Joke Schole graduated
in 1985 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Art.
During
her study she worked at Ulf Moritz Design and followed Masterclasses
with Junichi Araï.
In her early work, always on and with textile, she already showed
traditional and non-traditional techniques.
she
experimented with several dyes and paint on different material
which resulted in innovative textile designs and structures.
The tension in the combination of color, design and material caused
her to work for several manufacturers like Boussac, Texunion,
Mettler France, Jenast, and also for fashion designers like Jean-Charles
de Castelbajac, Daniel Hechter and Cacharell.
She continued her work as an interior designer with manufacturers
like
Macy s N.Y., Judscott, Ploegstoffen, and she made several
collections for Li Edelkoort.
Her
textiles where used in forcastings by the Dutch Fashion Institut,
Trend Union and in several publications.
With
this work she had a solo exhibition at the Dutch Textile Museum.
Together with the Innovation Center Amsterdam she made a research
with mineral textile recipes for industrial and environmental
purposes.
Her interest for minerals came after having worked with indigo
and other natural methods.
She
created big wallhangings which represented origin creatures made
with rust.
Joke Schole received prices like the First Price of the Best Collection
Interior Design at the Premier Vision-Paris 1987,the
Outstanding Price at the Komatsu Municipal Honjin Memorial Museum-
Japan with the Laquer Contest 1995,and
the Dutch Cultural Ministery supported Joke Schole with two post-graduate
scholarships.
For six years she worked for the Academie Voque- Amsterdam teaching
Interior & Fashion Design.
Furthermore her textiles and designs were used in the redecoration
of the prestigeous hotel New York-Rotterdam,in
the setdressing and costumes of some Dutch feature-films.
Nowadays
Joke Schole designes collections like costummade bags, special
personal gifst, jewellery,illustrations and paintings.
